                Abstract

                Key Word: Group Discussion Technique, Writing Skill This research is a classroom action research, that deals with the use of group discussion technique to increase the students writing procedure text at ninth grade of SMPN 2 Gempol. The focus of teaching learning is based on the problem occurred at ninth grade of SMPN 2 Gempol. The main problems are the students are confused to start writing because they did not know to express their idea and lack of vocabulary, and the average score students is below standard in first treatment, and the indicators of success in this study is seen from the average score of students in the post test of learning process in writing procedure text which is 75. The research problem of this study were: (1) how does the implementation of group discussion in teaching learning. (2) how does group discussion technique improve students ability in writing procedure text. The objective of the study were: (1) to describe the implementation of group discussion in teaching process. (2) To describe how group discussion technique improve student’s ability in writing texts the result of this study showed that (1) the implementation of group discussion in teaching procedure text is effective to use.(2)the students writing ability in procedure text after using group discussion improve in each aspect, and the average score of the students in the first cycle is 67,5 and the average score in the second cycle was 76,5. In conclusion, the implementation of the group discussion can improve the students ability in writing procedure text.
