Abstract

Student got many problems to study about grammar, especially personal pronoun. They are difficult to understand how the use of personal pronoun to make a sentence correctly. One media to make students easily to understand about grammar on personal pronoun by using Duolingo. So,the objective of this research is to know whether Duolingo is effective to increase students’ grammar ability on personal pronoun. This research used quantitative research design, and the subject was the students of SMP Taruna Jaya 1 Surabaya at class VII.A and VII.B class which each class consists of 30 students. The finding of this research showed that the effectiveness of Duolingo game to increase students grammar ability on personal pronoun was successful and the criteria of success was achieved, that the results of the research was accounting use T-Test statistic with the formula P-value > α (0,05). The result of this research got that Tcount is 3,221 and Ttableis 1,697. It means that H0 is pushed away and H1 is accepted. In summarized, the application Duolingo game in teaching is effective to increase student grammar ability on personal pronoun. Keywords: Duolingo, Grammar, Personal Pronoun.
