Abstract
This is a sociolinguistic study that concerns with register used by midwives. sociolinguistic register is linguistic variety that is linked to occupation, profession or topic and it is also language of group of people with common interest of job or language used in situation associated with such a group. Language is a social phenomenon. It means of communication between individuals. therefore, this research aims to analysis the meaning about registers, the tools used by midwives and the context of registers used by midwives and why midwives used registers to communication in their work . This study focus on registers used by midwives. The researcher wants to give information to the reader about the registers used by midwives. She also defined the implied meaning of the registers used. This study belongs to qualitative research, the data were obtained from data source through recording then written them down papers. The data obtained were collected and then analyzed. The researcher analyzed the data which are in the form of words, describe the meaning and then classified them according to the context when the communicating. The conclusion is midwives used register in their work. It only used by midwives and some profession to communicate about the words must used given to the patient. And the purpose are To keep secret among people of the same profession, to protect patients from worry over their condition. Keywords: sosiolinguistic, language, register
