Abstract

Students think that writing is a difficult skill because it takes much time. Therefore, students admit that writing is boring lesson. This caused students lack of confidence, think it’s boring or believe they have ‘nothing to say’. To make good English sentences, students need put a propriate grammar. Grammar also supports how students can write their ideas well. Therefore, the researcher wants to measure The effectiveness of writing diary in teaching grammar in Yapita Senior High School academic 2014/2015 year at tenth grade. This research used quantitative method which related to quasi experimental research. Quasi experiment includes assignment, but not random assignment of participants to groups. In this study, the researcher chooses Yapita Senior High School as the sample. The researcher chooses X.1 class as the control group and X.2 class as the experiment group and conducted pretest and posttest to get the data. After that the researcher analyses the result of pretest and posttest use some calculations of SPSS 16.0 software. And the percentage of posttest of both classes show that writing diary is effective in teaching grammar. Key Words: Writing, Diary, Experimental and Control groups.
