Abstract
Key terms: Character, Characterization, Conflict. This study uses short story by Anton Chekhov “the Lady with the Pet Dog”. The researcher researchs and analyzes the main character and his inner conflict. The inner conflict makes the main character becomes emotional and sensitive. This study uses qualitative method which the sources are from books, articles, and internet. The data collected are from the sentences and quotations within the short story. The theory used is a theory of character, characteristic, and conflict. The result of this study shows the psychology aspect which causes the inner conflict to the main character. It makes him be in a hard situation, which make him get difficulty in choosing two options. However in the end, the conflict can be solved by taking a wise decision.
