Abstract
Objective: As the life expectancy of the population increases, the incidence of degenerative diseases will increase. Degenerative disease that has a high level of morbidity and mortality is hypertension. Several factors that can influence are environmental factors, socio-cultural factors, health facilities, heredity and so on. Some changes to human life both in terms of lifestyle, social order and health are often related to culture. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between cultural values and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly in the work area of the Pakong Public Health Center Methods: The design used is correlational analytic cross sectional approach with a sample of 82 elderly, which was taken using simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square SPSS 21 test. Result: The results showed that there was a relationship between cultural value and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly with a p-value of 0.000 0.05 which showed that cultural values were related to the incidence of hypertension in the elderly. Conclusion: Nurses' understanding of the cultural values of the community needs to be improved to make it easier to provide preventive measures and treatment for hyperten sion patients Keywords: Cultural Value, Hypertension Incidence, elderly
