Abstract

Cases of helminthiasis are still a major problem in Indonesia. Transmission of this worm can be through direct contact such as feet, hands or nails contaminated with soil containing worm eggs. This worm infection often occurs without symptoms so that the disease is not getting enough attention. Infections can be diagnosed in a number of ways, one of which is examination using Eosin 2%. However, lately Eosin has become a complicated consideration related to the high cost of synthetic colors. The alternative used is by utilizing natural materials, one of them is teak tree trunk (Tectona grandis) and teak leaf bud. Both are part of the teak tree which contains natural dyes such as beta carotene and anthocyanin. So that it can be used as an alternative dye to replace Eosin. The purpose of this study was to differentiate the quality of the roundworm egg preparations (Ascaris lumbricoides) with the direct method using the immersion of teak tree trunks and teak leaf buds. Stool examination method used is the direct preparation method with a cover glass. Soaking teak tree trunks and teak leaf buds soaked in 96% alcohol for 1 x 24 hours. The results of staining using teak tree immersion and teak leaf buds against the quality of the preparations of roundworm eggs (Ascaris lumbricoides) showed that both of them gave a good staining result of 100% compared to Eosin. Based on the Chi-Square test there was no difference in the results of the coloring of roundworm eggs using a soaking teak tree trunk with teak leaf buds. So it can be concluded that the immersion of teak tree trunk and teak leaf bud immersion can be used as a natural dye to replace eosin in worm egg examination.
