Abstract

Key words: Techniques, Teaching, Writing The final project is about the teaching narrative writing at first grade students at SMP Institut Indonesia. Teaching writing at first grade students is not an easy task. It requires a lot of creativity from teachers. The object of the study is to find the techniques used by teacher in teaching narrative writing, to find out the implementation of the techniques into students writing ability, and to find out the strengths and weakness of techniques implemented in teaching narrative writing by the teachers and the students at SMP Institut Indonesia. This present study used descriptive qualitative research. The population of this study is English teacher at SMP Institut Indonesia and the subject of this study is one English teacher at the first grade students at SMP Institut Indonesia. To collect the data in this study, the writer used three kinds of instruments they are: interview, observation and questionnaire. The result of this study shows that the techniques used by the teacher in teaching narrative writing. By using the techniques, the teacher makes it easier for the students get explanation and information by the teacher in teaching and learning process. The implementation of the techniques into students writing ability, the teacher gives the students the techniques to make good writing, the teacher gives the students motivation and the teacher use the simple words to explain the material. It is to make the students more attracted because the teacher also helps the students to increase their ability in writing skill. Moreover, the writer finds some weaknesses by the students; they will had difficulties in developing paragraph using simple sentence of present tense correctly and the condition of the class was still crowded so the students cannot concentrate. It created a difficult learning situation in the classroom.
