Abstract

Consumption of junk food has changed people's dietary habits intensely to meet daily food needs and has increased from year to year. Junk food is not only consumed by adults but also children. Junk food such as nuggets, sausages, burgers, instant noodles, and the like are preferred by children, but they contain lots of additives (flavorings and reservatives) which will damage a child's body. Considering the increasing variety and content of ingredients in junk food, it will certainly have a negative impact, especially on children's health, and cause dangerous diseases later in life. The current research was conducted to analyze the impact of giving junk food to young children. Data analysis was carried out through three stages, namely reduction, presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the analysis of research findings show that junk food consumed intensely and excessively will have a negative impact on children's growth and development and other health. Children will experience the impact, which can trigger short and long term illnesses. These diseases include obesity, diabetes, malnutrition, types of cancer, damage to body organs and others. Children's nutritional needs for balanced nutrition must be met from an early age, including carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals because they have their respective functions in the body so that they can achieve optimal growth and development.
