                Abstract

                Nowadays, Teaching English is very important for students. English is the only foreign language taught in junior high school in Indonesia and it is a nationally subjects tested. And the questions in the national exams majority oriented reading comprehension and vocabulary development. Moreover to improve reading comprehension in teaching learning English. The purpose of this study was 1) To describe the implementation of cooperative learning using Student Teams Achievement Division(STAD) in narrative text of eight grade students at MTs BustanulUlumDlangguMojokerto. 2) To know responses the students achievement in reading comprehension in narrative text of the eight grade students at MTs BustanulUlumDlangguMojokerto after taught using Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD). The study was conducted at MTs BustanulUlumDlangguMojokerto, 27 students of eight grade. The instrument of the data is Observation, quiz, field note and documentation. The result of the data analysis is descriptive qualitative. The conclusion of this study: 1) Students are more active in the cooperative learning type STAD rather than learning ordinary. 2) ) Students' reading skills after being given a lesson by using STAD learning method proved to be better than before using STAD learning methods. Suggestions for English teachers: 1) Preparing all purposes to teach well when using STAD method. 2) Consider the teaching time management. 3) Allow students to make a group with their friends that usually be consulted.
