                Abstract

                Literature is as ‘imaginative’ writing in the sense of fiction—writing which is not literally true. She further clarifies that a distinction between ‘fact’ and ‘fiction’, then—seems unlikely to get us very far—not least because the distinction itself is often a questionable one (Eagleton, 1996: 11). Reading stories or fictions benefits us trough the very pleasure it gives. The benefit is immense, and the pleasure is undeniable. Conflicts in The Open Window and The Interlopers including: internal conflicts and external conflicts in main character. The Open Window and The Interlopers are Saki’s most popular short story. It was first collected in Beasts and Super Beasts in 1914. The Open Window is perhaps his most successful and best known example of the type, and also The Interlopers (2013). Based on the background above, statement of the problem as follows: what are the internal conflict in The Open Window and The Interlopers?, what are the external conflict in The Open Window and The Interlopers?, how do the external conflicts influence internal conflict in The Open Window and The Interlopers?, the last, what are the similarities of conflicts in The Open Window and The Interlopers?. This research is qualitative research, where it is read and selects relevant literary works to the study, and then analyze it, predicts the problem and takes data dealing with the purpose of the study, conduct survey towards dialogue in the story, gives interpretation and explanation based on the conversations. The story The Open Window and The Interlopers, it explains about internal conflict of Mr. Nuttel. And also external conflict, Mr.Nuttel against Vera and Mrs. Sappleton. The Interlopers, internal conflict of Gradwitz, and external conflicts, Gradwitz against Zaeynm, Gradwitz against nature. After analyzing all of conflicts, it is found the similarities of conflict in The Open Window and The Interlopers.
