                Abstract

                The goal of this research is to find out how authentic assessment is implemented in assessing speaking and to find out the problems that occur in the implementation of authentic assessment in assessing speaking at the seventh B grade student of MTsM 1 Taman, Sidoarjo. In this study, descriptive qualitative research design was used. The setting is MTsM 1 Taman, Sidoarjo. The source of the data is the seventh grade English teacher, the seventh B grade students of MTsM 1 Taman, Sidoarjo, and the process of authentic assessment to assess speaking skills that was conducted by the seventh grade English teacher of MtsM 1 Taman, Sidoarjo. The data collection techniques are observation, documentation and interview. The instruments are the researcher, the observation worksheets, a handy cam, the documentation worksheet and an interview worksheet. Adapted Miles and Huberman model of qualitative data analysis is used. The findings of the implementation are as follows: opening, building knowledge, building sport vocabulary, language focus, planning your own sporting event and the use of formative assessment and the summative assessment; the problems are this assessment needs more time in developing, conducting, and administrating, needs higher budget in developing, is difficult in developing, and opens multiple interpretations in answering.
