Abstract
This research is conducted to analyze the figures of speech used in Demi Lovato’s songs entitled “Skyscraper” and “Warrior”. In specific, this research aims to analyze: (1) the most dominant type of figures of speech used in Demi Lovato’s song lyric, (2) how the figures of speech applied in Demi lovato’s song lyrics, (3) the reason of Demi Lovato used those figures of speech in her song lyrics. The method applied in this research is descriptive qualitative. Meanwhile, to limit the study, researcher uses stylistics as the main theory. The data used in this research are the lyrics of Demi Lovato’s songs which contain figures of speech. The research is conducted by classifying the stanza and the verses which contain figures of speech, identifying the most dominant types of figures of speech in the song lyrics, describing how figures of speech applied in the song lyrics, and explaining the reason of Demi Lovato used figures of speech in her song. After analyzing the kind of figures of speech, the study has found that there are several kinds of figures of speech such as symbol, metaphor, personification, and simile. Metaphor and symbol are the dominant figures of speech used in Demi Lovato’s song lyrics. After analyzing the researcher make conclusion, Demi Lovato use those figures of speech to show her experience in the past. Keywords: Figures of Speech, Song, Lyric, Demi Lovato
