Abstract
The tittle of this research is Postcolonialism in Letters of a Javanese Princess Memoir As Reflected Through The Main Character: R.A.Kartini. This researchanalyzes about the postcolonial identity: mimicry, hybridity, ambivalence in Letters of a Javanese Princess memoir. The researcher focuses on R.A.Kartini as the main character of the memoir. The theory of this researchtakes from Jane Hiddlestonunderstanding postcolonialism. The researcher analyzes the characterization of the character and the postcolonial identity: mimicry, hybridity, and ambivalence. The method that she uses in this research is descriptive qualitative research. Then the finding of the research is the characterization of Kartini are critical woman, clever woman, lively woman, confidence woman. And for the postcolonialism, the researcher finds R.A.Kartini’s way to mimic and hybrid the colonizer, then the ambivalence feeling is felt by her. The effects of postcolonialism seemed on her characterization on that memoir. So, the postcolonialism in this research is related with her characterization.
