Abstract

Key Words : Symbol, A Doll’s House, Henrik Ibsen, Drama Literature is creative product of art whose object is human and life. Literature works, especially drama have many beautifulness and uniqueness things. One of them is symbol. It can make the story more interesting, moreover reveals about the theme, setting, plot, character, and the messages that are still in the story. Considering the uniqueness and importance of symbol, the writer interested and wants to analyze the symbols are used in A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen. This research focuses to analyze what the symbols that used in A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen and what are the possible meanings of those symbols. This study tries to reveal the messages of the story by interpreting the symbols. Descriptive qualitative method is used considering the object of the study and presents them descriptively. The scope of this research is focused on the symbols that used in A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen and the analysis of the research is made based on the theory of symbol. The result of this research shows us that Ibsen gives many symbols in A Doll’s House and those eleven important symbols that had been analyzed can reveal about the theme, setting, plot, and character of the story that are still unclear and can’t be understood to the reader. Moreover, it reveals the messages are still hidden of the story.
