Abstract

ABSTRACT Quality human resources are the key to the progress of a nation. As a teacher educator, it has an important role in delivering the quality of a generation's resources. To achieve this goal, teachers are required to have professionalism. The teaching profession can be classified as a profession because it has met the criteria both in expertise and the process of obtaining it obtained through higher education. A teacher who is said to be professional if the teacher has a high quality of learning. 21st century education by wanting the professionalism of teachers through increasing the capacity of human resources who are literate in technological progress. The aims of this study are to describe the discourse of teacher professionalism, the function of teacher professionalism, and the principles of teacher professional development, especially in the era of 21st century education. This research is a literature research or library research. The results of the study confirm that the discourse of professional teachers according to them is teachers who have pedagogical, personal, professional and social competencies. Meanwhile, the professionalism of teachers in 21st century education emphasizes the competence of problem solving and literacy. The professional function of teachers shows significant determination in improving several aspects, namely the quality of education, performance motivation, and teacher welfare.
