Abstract
Sexual abuse is a complex problem in society. Ironically, it often occurs in the school environment. This study aims to reveal the paradigm of elementary school teachers regarding early sexual education as the implementation of child-friendly schools. It is qualitative research. The data collection was arried out by interview. The analysis technique applied a descriptive analysis. The informants consisted of seven teachers from various Muhammadiyah elementary schools in East Java; they were selected purposively. The results showed that most teachers understood the essence of the child-friendly school concept. All of them share the same perception that sexual education is very urgent, even though the community still considers it taboo. Instilling sexual education should be the task of parents, teachers, and especially guidance and counselling services. The teachers' approach in implementing sexual education is through songs related to body parts that other people may and may not touch, sexual education through counselling guidance services, directions on how to dress, reproductive organs, and gender.
