Abstract
This research has purpose to know whether students’ mastery vocabulary after implementation of using cartoon movie in teaching vocabulary at the seventh grade students of SMP BinaTaruna Surabaya could be improved by using cartoon movie. The researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) to solve students’ problem in vocabulary mastery. This study was conducted following Kemmis and Taggart model with the following procedures of the action research: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The study carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of one meetings. The data gathering in this study through interview, observation, field notes and test. The researcher used descriptive analysis and students score to know the result of the implementation the Classroom Action Research to the students of class VII of SMP BinaTaruna Surabaya. The result of this study showed that the students improved their mastery vocabulary during teaching and learning process by using cartoon movie. It is proven by the data which derived from this study. First, from the interview result showed that students’ vocabulary has improved, it can be seen that students could understand new vocabularies easier. Then data from field notes, it could be seen that the students were more active, interested and fun in mastering the vocabulary by using cartoon movie. Last, the result of pre-test and post-test showed the significant improvement. The mean of pre-activity score is 47.13, post- activity 1 score is 72.00, and the mean score of post-activity 2 score is 81.60. Finally, the use of cartoon movie to teach vocabulary can improve students’ mastery vocabulary. Key word: Cartoon Movie, CAR, Teaching Vocabulary, Vocabulary Mastery.
