Abstract

Poetry deals with theme, imagery, figure of speech, sense inside, etc. The contents usually tells about people’s feeling, emotion, experience, environment, or just an imaginative brainwork of poets. There are so many kinds of themes of poetry, such as: death, love, religion, humor, etc. Most of poets use love’s theme to write poems. Love’s themes are also very influence in the outhor’s life. It’s like Elizabeth Barrett Browning which has wrote many poems with love’s themes. Love used as theme of poetry because love is unic, love will create a possitive character such as modesty, resolute, honest, strong, etc. But sometimes love will also can makes people going crazy or it can makes people being more patient and calm. Love can be really complicated. It will emerge a different feeling between one other person. Love will make the lovers keep their love stay vin their heart eventhough their beloved had gone or dead. This study would analyze Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s three love poems, “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...”, “I think of thee!---My thoughts do twine and bud...”, and “My own Beloved, who hast lifted me...”. Based on the background above, the objectives of this study are stated as follows: Analyzing love depicted in Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s poem “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...”, Analyzing love depicted in Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s poem “I think of thee!---My thoughts do twine and bud...”, and Analyzing love depicted in Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s poem “My own Beloved, who hast lifted me...”. The result of this study shows the love depicted in these poems above is romantic love. In the first poem the author explais her love with seven ways and she feels that her love to her beloved is better after dead. In the second poem she tries to animate her beloved with a plan life, and in the third poem she drawn her beloved as a rescuer. From these poems, she tries to explain, express, and write as romantic as possible. She uses beautiful words to drawn her love which are full of her feeling, intimacy, caring, honesty, appreciate, apology, sacrifice, etc. It is the main of romantic love. Love can be a sorrow when it must gone, but love also will stay and never distinguish the limit of space and time. Love will be a big power to keep survives. Love will keep stay in the heart even though her beloved had gone or dead. It will keep stay in the heart without hope for repayment.
