Abstract
Power and solidarity are two important elements that is implemented between students-teacher in classroom especially in speaking class. It is because curriculum has been developing from the teacher center to be student center. It is definetly that it should be student center in speaking class as producing skill. Therefore, this reseach analyzed power and solidarity that impelemented in ten grader of Muhammadiyah senior high school 7 and Muhammadiyah senior high school 2 in Surabaya. The reseach aims to find out the utterances that consist of power and solidarity, the impelementation, and describes the similarities and differences of the implementation of power and solidarity. This research used qualitative descriptive theory. Then, the data categorized based on IRF (Hale:2011) and turn taking (Wienmann:1927) . Based on those categories, it can be seen the power and solidarity (Fairclough:1989) in the classroom. The categories of power and solidarity; power as control, power as struggle, power as judgment, silence (lack of power), solidarity as closeness, and solidarity as paying attention. From the analysis, it shows different implementation of power and solidarity from the conversation of both of schools. Such as in the SMA Muhammadiyah 2 have more power as control however in SMA Muhammadiyah 7 have more solidarity as closeness. Whereas, both of schoolswere using power and solidarity while learning process. Keyword: Power and solidarity, speaking class
