Abstract

This research was aimed to analyze racial discrimination and the background of white people’s stereotype over black women. The data were taken from sentences of the novel and also its novel entitled The Help (2009). The researcher used descriptive qualitative was applied as a research method, while Stereotypes and Stereotyping by Macrae, C. N., Charles S. & Miles H (1996) was used as the main theory to find out background of white’s stereotypes. On the other hand, The Montgomery Bus Boycott by Phibbs (2009) as theory to find out racial discrimination toward black women based on the Jim Crow Laws. This research tried to describe and explain there are two factors stereotypes arised, among other based on differences of appearance and physical characteristic, and social learning. Then, the racial discrimination happened in many aspects such as in housing, library, public transportation, education, bathroom, and hospital.
