Abstract
The tendency of externalizing problems in adolescents needs more attention since this behavior affects not only the adlescents themselves but also the environment. Mass media often tell about student brawls, violence among students and truancy. This research aims to know the influence of the family and peer on the tendency of exsternalizing problem on adolescents. The participants were 169 adolescents from 12-15 years of age sitting on grade 7 at one of state junior high schools in Surabaya. Data collection used four scales of psychology. The scale of balance relationship in parent marriage was arranged based on circumplex model of marital and family system from Olson (2000). Parenting effectiveness scale refered to Social Interaction Learning (SIL) Model (Forgatch, 2004) and closeness to deviant peers scale refered to research variables regarding deviant peer from Mount (2002), Scramella (2002) and from The Index of peer Relation (IPR) (Khurshid & Rahman 2006). The scale of tendency of externalizing problems in adolescents referred to Achenbach (Mash & Wolfe, 2005). Data Processing used Structural Equational Modeling particularly path analysis. An important outcome of the study was that the balance on the parent relationship, parenting effectiveness and closeness to deviant peers influenced the tendency of externalizing problems in adolescents directly and indirectly, the imlpication of the research is that in order to prevent the occurance of tendency of externalizing problem, parent relationship, parenting , and peers need to get more attention.
