Abstract

Speaking is the product of creative construction of linguistics stings, the speaker makes choices of lexical, structure and discourse. In this research, the researcher would like to make research about Implementation of Talking stick in teaching speaking skill of tenth grade student at SMAS Maryam Surabaya. The researcher makes a conclusion that the students need another method in teaching speaking skill. The research design was descriptive qualitative, design that used to obtain in-depth data, The data that contains the activity of teaching and learning process. This research used observation field note and questionnaire to collect the data. This research analyzed the implementation of talking stick and the students’ responses based on observation field note and the questionnaire. The finding of the research showed the teacher made the students feel happy and enthusiastic to learn speaking. The result showed students appreciate the teacher's instruction in speaking material because students feel by using sticks to speak in facilitated material and easy to express their ideas in speaking learning. The implementation of talking stick in teaching speaking by the teacher was great. The talking stick can be use to motivate the students to speak. The talking stick used by the teacher is appropriate for teaching speaking.
