Abstract
This study is linguistic study. It focuses on the Uvularized /R/ in Bangkalan speech community. The special sounds or terms used in formal and unformal context when the people communicate with those who stay in the same communities.The review of related literature in this research, the research, the researcher quotes the opinions of the some experts that the researcher relevant to her study. The topics are about linguistics, phonology, phoneme, uvular phoneme, uvular and description of the research object. The method of research is descriptive qualitative. The data are collected from data source obtained through observation and interview. The researcher taken from recorded as the data to present how pronounce phoneme /r/. Used among them. The data were used five steps to analyze the data obtained, transcribing, translating, tabulating, and analyzing at the data. The data obtained are collected and analyzed. The researcher analyzed the data by finding out word containing bearing phoneme/r/ and meaning that are used by Bangkalan speech community. They are: Saarenah, dha’ar, areh,, eparengeh, korang, mareh, beri’ ,Bernah, borong ,lastareh, guring, rojek,etc Finally, it is concluded that the phoneme /r/ used by Bangkalan ,Madura, East Java speech community words containing bearing phoneme /r/especially uvularized /r/ according to context in which the communication event take place. The usually use same words and expression for daily communication. Furthermore, they usually use some words whish are known by people outside their community, however, those words (phoneme /r/ have certain meaning. Keywords: Phonology, phoneme, uvularized /R/
