English Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Muhammadiyah University at Surabaya. Advisor I: Dr. Ahmad Idris Asmaradhani, M.Pd., Advisor II: Linda Mayasari, S.Pd, M.Pd. Beside for communication, language has other function that expresses the speakers’ intention which generally known as illocutionary act. Connecting to the data “Syi’ir Tanpa Waton” that contains intended meaning, in this research- entitled “The Study of Illocutionary Acts in “Syi’ir Tanpa Wathon” by Gus Nizam”, the researcher focuses on investigating the illocutionary acts and figuring out the possible functions of illocutionary acts in “Syi’ir Tanpo Waton”. The aim of this research is to identify the illocutionary acts and the possible functions of illocutionary acts in “Syi’ir Tanpo Waton”. This research applies descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the data. The data of this research are the utterances of each stanza in “Syi’ir Tanpa Waton”. The source of the data is the whole text of “Syi’ir Tanpo Waton” in the form of script taken from Mimbar Magazine, November, 2012 edition. It was accessed from website (Jatim kemenag, 2012). The source of the data is also supported by the video taken from website (YouTube, 2012). Based on the result of this research, it can be concluded that the dominant act that is implicitly produced by the speaker is the act of inviting. Most possible functions used in this syi’ir are directive category that consist of 9 (nine) stanzas from 13 (thirteen) stanzas of this syi’ir. Moreover, from this research, the researcher classifies 3 (three) of the stanzas as representative category as the act of claiming. One of the stanzas is the act of expressing feeling in the form of expressive category. The researcher has not found commissive and declarative category in this syi’ir.
