Abstract

This research was conducted to analyze the communication strategies in English teacher’s talk when communicating with students during English learning in an inclusive classroom. The researcher applied qualitative research design which applied observation method. The source of data was the English teacher of SD Negeri 263 Gresik. The interactions between the teachers and students in the two classrooms were observed and audio-recorded. The teacher also interviewed. The data were transcribed into written text then analyze using the types of teacher’s talk in the classroom proposed by Flanders Interaction Analysis Categories. The result of this research found that all categories of teachers’ talk occurred in classroom interaction, they are accepting feelings, praise or encouragement, accepts or uses ideas of students, ask questions, lecturing, giving directions, justifying authority. Teachers use communication strategies to solve communication problems and make it easier for students to understand what the teacher really means. The result revealed that the parts of the teacher talk used by the teacher were able to assist students in understanding the material being studied and were able to increase the activeness or contribution of students in the process of learning in inclusive class.
