Abstract
Bird traders and bird lovers are the members of speech community who have their own language style in communicating to one another. They have some special words to make the communication simple and easy. Most of them, only the members of the speech community who can understand one another. This research is intended to find out the special words used by the bird traders and bird lovers in Mojokerto. This research is to analyze and describe that bird traders and bird lovers have this own language specialization and forms. Besides, they have their own community which understand one another in their communication. Therefore they are called speech community. Some related literatures are used in this research. They are for underlying the opinion of the writer. Without the endorsement from the opinion from those literatures, this research means nothing for everyone. So, the writer tries to give the best effort in writing this thesis. This research used descriptive qualitative research. The result shows only the description of phenomenon. It means that the analysis is describing the phenomenon found during the process of the study about two months. The data source is from the conversation of bird traders and lovers in Mojokerto. Then, the data are selected by recorded and transcripted them. The result of this research concludes some questions and purpose of this research. It concludes that there are many special words used by bird traders and bird lovers in Mojokerto, such as, Kacer, Lampung, Kepala Emas, tledekan, Latpres, nyeklek, ngerol, and ngetem. Most of the special words are used in the certain time and places, like bird market, bird contest and bird lovers’ house. Those are the places in which the special words are usually expressed. Besides, there are some reasons that make bird traders and bird lovers used these words. Actually, the reason is order to make the conversation in their communication runs well and easy. It also makes the communication has practical purpose among one another. By using these words, they are more familiar in communicating to one another who have the same knowledge about bird. From the result of this research, it is concluded that bird traders and lovers is one of the speech communities whose special words in their communication. They use the special words in a market, bird contest, or in a place which they usually use the special words. These words are used to create a familiarity.
