Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan faktor-faktor penyebab rendahnya minat baca dan kesulitan pemahaman materi IPAS pada peserta didik kelas III SD Muhammadiyah 8 Surabaya. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus melalui wawancara, observasi, dan angket. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rendahnya minat baca peserta didik dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor internal, antara lain kemampuan membaca yang masih rendah dan motivasi belajar yang kurang. Selain itu, ditemukan pula faktor eksternal seperti kurangnya pendampingan orang tua serta kurangnya variasi pembelajaran. Kombinasi kedua faktor tersebut mengakibatkan peserta didik mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami materi IPAS yang menuntut kemampuan literasi sains dan pemahaman bacaan. Temuan ini menegaskan perlunya strategi pembelajaran yang variatif serta penguatan program literasi untuk membangun minat baca dan kemampuan memahami materi IPAS pada peserta didik sekolah dasar

The results indicated that students' low reading interest was influenced by several internal factors, including low reading ability and lack of learning motivation. In addition, external factors were also found, such as a lack of parental guidance and a lack of learning variation. The combination of these two factors resulted in students experiencing difficulty in understanding science material that requires scientific literacy and reading comprehension skills. These findings emphasized the need for varied learning strategies and strengthening literacy programs to build reading interest and the ability to understand science material in elementary school students.
