Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between coping strategies and Subjective Well-Being (SWB) among female inmates. Coping strategies were categorized into adaptive and maladaptive coping. The study employed a total sampling technique, involving all 150 female inmates at Rutan X. Data were collected using an adapted Brief-COPE questionnaire and SWB instruments, namely the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS). Data were analyzed using Spearman’s Rho correlation. The results revealed a significant positive relationship between adaptive coping and SWB (r = 0.167; p = 0.041), as well as a highly significant negative relationship between maladaptive coping and SWB (r = -0.290; p < 0.001). These findings indicate that adaptive coping strategies are associated with higher subjective well-being, whereas maladaptive coping strategies are associated with lower subjective well-being among female inmates.
