Abstract

Introduction: Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which generally attacks the lungs but can also affect other organs. This disease can be latent without symptoms or develop into a progressive active disease. This study aims to analyze the relationship between family support and adherence to taking anti-tuberculosis medication in patients at Puskesmas (community health center) Sidotopo in Surabaya City. Methods: This research was conducted using a quantitative cross-sectional design. This study involved 22 pulmonary tuberculosis patients at the Sidotopo community health center through total sampling. Data were collected using the MARS-10 questionnaire and family support. Analysis: Univariate analysis was conducted for respondent characteristics, while the Chi-Square test was used for bivariate analysis. Results: The percentage of respondents was dominated by ages 35-44 years (32%), male (64%), education of high school/vocational high school (45%), and self-employed (41%). The proportion of patients in the intensive and continuation treatment phases was balanced (50% each). The majority of respondents (68%) received good family support and showed high adherence to taking medication (55%). However, the Chi-Square test showed a p-value of 0,732 (p > 0.05), indicating no significant relationship between family support and adherence to anti-tuberculosis medication at the study site. Discussion: Although family support and medication adherence in tuberculosis patients at Sidotopo community health center were relatively good, this study did not find a statistically significant relationship between the two. Other factors may have a greater influence on patient adherence.
