Abstract

This study aims to examine the empirical impact of using Educational Snakes and Ladders games on the understanding of celestial bodies among Grade VI elementary school students. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a sample of 64 students, divided into an experimental group ($n=32$) and a control group ($n=32$) selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a 20-item multiple-choice test to measure conceptual understanding, which demonstrated high validity (average $r = 0.565$) and reliability ($\alpha = 0.923$). Statistical analysis was performed using an Independent Samples t-test after confirming normality (Kolmogorov-Smirnov) and homogeneity (Levene’s Test). Additionally, Cohen’s $d$ was calculated to determine the effect size. The hypothesis test results revealed a significant difference between the experimental group ($M = 84.73, SD = 6.28$) and the control group ($M = 67.38, SD = 7.15$), with $t(50) = 9.146, p < 0.001$. The obtained effect size was categorized as very large ($d = 2.63$). These findings indicate that Educational Snakes and Ladders games significantly improve students' understanding of celestial body concepts. Consequently, this medium is recommended as an innovative alternative for teaching abstract topics in Science (IPAS), provided that the conceptual questions are critically designed to address and challenge student misconceptions.
