Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that remains a global and national health problem, especially in children who are vulnerable to complications if not treated appropriately. Indonesia has the second highest number of TB cases in the world. In Surabaya, cases of pulmonary TB in children continue to increase, with 1,316 new cases in 2024. This study aims to determine the adherence profile of Anti-Tuberculosis Drug (OTD) use in Category 1 pediatric pulmonary TB patients at the Haji Regional General Hospital, East Java Province. This study used a descriptive observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study subjects were 51 pediatric patients aged 0–14 years undergoing pulmonary TB treatment at the Pediatric Respirology Clinic at the Haji General Hospital, East Java Province, from June 18 to July 18, 2025. Data were collected through medical records and the Medication Adherence Rating Scale (MARS-10) questionnaire. The majority of patients were aged 0–4 years (71%), male (61%), and underweight (68%). Eighty-five percent of patients used Fixed Dose Combination (FDC) anti-TB drugs in the continuation phase. Mantoux tuberculin test results showed a diameter of ≥10 mm in 63% of patients. The most common comorbidity was marasmus (19%). The level of compliance with anti-TB drugs was high, with 90% being compliant and 10% being non-compliant. Compliance with anti-TB drugs in pediatric pulmonary TB patients at the Haji Regional General Hospital, East Java Province, was high. Family education and supervision still need to be improved to prevent non-compliance.
