Abstract

Latar Belakang: Hipertensi merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan utama yang berkontribusi terhadap meningkatnya angka morbiditas dan mortalitas. Salah satu faktor yang diduga berperan dalam peningkatan tekanan darah adalah status gizi, khususnya kelebihan berat badan dan obesitas yang dapat meningkatkan risiko berbagai penyakit kardiovaskular. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara status gizi dengan derajat tekanan darah pada karyawan Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif analitik observasional dengan desain cross-sectional. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 55 responden yang dipilih menggunakan teknik total sampling. Data diperoleh melalui pengukuran langsung berat badan, tinggi badan, dan tekanan darah, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan uji korelasi Spearman. Selain itu, data mengenai faktor risiko hipertensi yang dapat dimodifikasi dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner tertutup dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar responden memiliki status gizi berlebih dan obesitas sebanyak 40 orang (72,8%), serta sebanyak 29 orang (52,8%) mengalami tekanan darah tidak normal. Analisis statistik menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara status gizi dengan derajat tekanan darah (p-value = 0,52). Kesimpulan: Status gizi tidak berhubungan secara signifikan dengan derajat tekanan darah pada karyawan Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya. Oleh karena itu, faktor lain seperti aktivitas fisik, pola makan, riwayat keluarga, dan tingkat stres perlu diperhatikan dalam upaya pencegahan hipertensi di lingkungan perguruan tinggi. Temuan ini dapat menjadi dasar bagi pengembangan program promosi kesehatan di lingkungan perguruan tinggi.

Background: Hypertension is a major public health problem contributing to increased morbidity and mortality worldwide. One factor suspected to play a role in elevated blood pressure is nutritional status, particularly overweight and obesity, which are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between nutritional status and blood pressure levels among employees of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya. Methods: This study employed an observational analytic quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 55 respondents were recruited using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through direct measurements of body weight, height, and blood pressure. Nutritional status was assessed using body mass index (BMI). The data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. In addition, data on modifiable hypertension risk factors were collected using a structured closed-ended questionnaire and analyzed descriptively. Results: The results showed that most respondents were overweight or obese (40 respondents; 72.8%), while 29 respondents (52.8%) had abnormal blood pressure. Statistical analysis showed no significant relationship between nutritional status and blood pressure levels (p-value = 0.52). Conclusion: This study concluded that nutritional status was not significantly associated with blood pressure levels among employees of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya. Therefore, attention should also be given to other risk factors, such as physical activity, dietary patterns, and stress levels, in efforts to prevent hypertension in the university setting.
