Abstract
Latar Belakang : Kualitas tidur merupakan salah satu faktor penting dalam menjaga kesehatan fisik dan mental, terutama pada mahasiswa dengan tuntutan akademik yang tinggi. Gangguan kualitas tidur dapat menyebabkan berbagai dampak negatif, seperti penurunan konsentrasi, gangguan fungsi kognitif, serta menurunnya performa akademik. Mahasiswa kedokteran menjadi salah satu kelompok yang rentan mengalami gangguan tidur akibat beban akademik dan tingkat stres yang tinggi. Salah satu pendekatan non-farmakologis yang dapat dikembangkan untuk meningkatkan kualitas tidur adalah penggunaan bahan herbal. Lemon myrtle (Backhousia citriodora) diketahui mengandung senyawa aktif, terutama citral, yang memiliki potensi memberikan efek relaksasi dan mendukung regulasi tidur.
Tujuan : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian teh simplisia daun lemon myrtle terhadap kualitas tidur mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya, baik secara subjektif menggunakan Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) maupun secara objektif melalui parameter lama tidur dan fase tidur.
Metode : Penelitian ini menggunakan desain quasi-experimental dengan pendekatan pre-test and post-test control group. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 32 responden yang dibagi menjadi kelompok perlakuan dan kelompok kontrol. Kelompok perlakuan diberikan teh simplisia daun lemon myrtle selama 7 hari, sedangkan kelompok kontrol diberikan teh pembanding. Pengukuran kualitas tidur subjektif dilakukan menggunakan kuesioner PSQI sebelum dan sesudah intervensi. Parameter objektif berupa lama tidur serta fase tidur yang meliputi light sleep, deep sleep, dan Rapid Eye Movement (REM) diukur menggunakan alat monitoring tidur. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan uji Shapiro–Wilk untuk normalitas, uji homogenitas Levene, uji Wilcoxon untuk data berpasangan, Independent Samples T-Test, serta Mann–Whitney U Test sesuai karakteristik distribusi data.

Background : Sleep quality is an important factor in maintaining physical and mental health, especially among students with high academic demands. Poor sleep quality may lead to decreased concentration, impaired cognitive function, and reduced academic performance. Medical students are one of the groups vulnerable to sleep disturbances due to high academic workload and stress levels. One non-pharmacological approach that can be developed to improve sleep quality is the use of herbal interventions. Lemon myrtle (Backhousia citriodora) contains bioactive compounds, particularly citral, which have potential relaxing, sedative, and anxiolytic effects that may support sleep regulation.
Objective : This study aimed to determine the effect of lemon myrtle simplicia tea administration on sleep quality among medical students at Muhammadiyah University of Surabaya, assessed subjectively using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and objectively through sleep duration and sleep phase parameters.
Methods : This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group approach. A total of 32 respondents were divided into treatment and control groups. The treatment group received lemon myrtle simplicia tea for 7 days, while the control group received comparison tea. Subjective sleep quality was measured using the PSQI questionnaire before and after intervention. Objective parameters included sleep duration and sleep phases consisting of light sleep, deep sleep, and Rapid Eye Movement (REM), measured using a sleep monitoring device. Data analysis was performed using the Shapiro–Wilk test, Levene’s test, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, Independent Samples T-Test, and Mann–Whitney U Test according to data characteristics.
