Abstract

Fish sellers work in wet and less hygienic environment, which increases the moisture between the toes and encourages the growth of Trichophyton sp. fungi. The purpose of this study was to determine the percentage of Trichophyton sp. fungi (dermatophytes) detected in the toes of fish sellers in the Pabean Market area of Surabaya City. This study was conducted from December 2025 to July 2026 at the Parasitology and Mycology Laboratory of the Diploma 3 Medical Laboratory Technology program, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya. This study was a descriptive quantitative study using primary and secondary data collected through questionnaires and tabulated. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling technique, sampling was carried out by taking swabs from between the toes of fish traders with a total of 47 samples, then planted on SDAda media and incubated for 7 days at room temperature (27°C). After 7 days, macroscopic and microscopic examinations were carried out using LCB staining, then observed under a microscope at 40x magnification. The results of this study showed that from 47 swab samples from between the toes of fish sellers in the Pabean Market area of Surabaya showed negative results for Tricophyton sp fungus covering the entire sample (100%). Based on these data, it can be concluded that the level of detection of Tricophyton sp fungus. in between the toes of fish sellers in the Pabean Market area of Surabaya showed negative results in all respondents, this is supported by high awareness in each individual regarding the use of PPE such as boots and also related to good personal hygiene, such as washing hands and feet with soap after work
