Identifikasi Soil-Transmitted Helminth (STH) pada Kuku Penjual Bunga di Wilayah Surabaya Pusat

Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) merupakan kelompok cacing usus yang penularannya terjadi melalui tanah. Penjual bunga termasuk kelompok pekerja yang berisiko terpapar Soil Transmitted Helminth (STH) karena aktivitas kerjanya melibatkan kontak langsung dengan tanah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi keberadaan Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) pada kuku penjual bunga di wilayah Surabaya Pusat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan teknik total sampling terhadap seluruh sampel kuku penjual bunga yaitu sebanyak 20 sampel. Pemeriksaan dilakukan menggunakan metode sedimentasi dengan larutan NaCl 0,9% dan hasil diamati secara mikroskopis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 3 sampel (15%) positif mengandung telur Ascaris lumbricoides, sedangkan 17 sampel (85%) tidak ditemukan telur, larva maupun cacing Soil Transmitted Helminth (STH). Temuan tersebut menunjukkan bahwa kontaminasi Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) masih ditemukan pada kuku penjual bunga di wilayah Surabaya Pusat, meskipun tingkat kontaminasinya relatif rendah penerapan personal hygiene dan penggunaan alat pelindung diri selama bekerja tetap perlu ditingkatkan sebagai upaya pencegahan infeksi Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH).

Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH) are a group of intestinal worms transmitted through the soil. Flower sellers are a group of workers at risk of exposure to STH because their work activities involve direct contact with soil. This study aimed to identify the presence of STH under the fingernails of flower sellers in central Surabaya. A descriptive research design was employed using a total sampling technique, covering all 20 fingernail samples collected from the flower sellers. Examination was conducted using the sedimentation method with a 0.9% NaCl solution, and results were observed microscopically. The study results showed that 3 samples (15%) tested positive for Ascaris lumbricoides eggs, while 17 samples (85%) showed no presence of STH eggs, larvae, or worms. These findings indicate that STH contamination is still present under the fingernails of flower sellers in central Surabaya; although the contamination rate is relatively low, personal hygiene practices and the use of personal protective equipment during work still need to be improved to prevent STH infections.
