Abstract

Background : Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder that may lead to various complications, including renal dysfunction. Urea and creatinine levels are commonly used as indicators of kidney function in patients with T2DM. Two-hour postprandial blood glucose (2hPPBG) reflects post-meal glycemic control and is suspected to be associated with renal impairment. Objective : To analyze the relationship between 2hPPBG levels and urea and creatinine levels in patients with T2DM at RSI Aisyiyah Malang. Methods : This analytical observational study employed a cross-sectional approach using medical record data of T2DM patients at RSI Aisyiyah Malang. A total of 125 patients who met the inclusion criteria were included. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test with a significance level of p<0.05. Results : Most respondents were aged 46–65 years (96%) and female (63.2%). Elevated creatinine levels were found in 119 respondents (95.2%), while elevated urea levels were found in 121 respondents (96.8%). Statistical analysis showed no significant relationship between 2hPPBG and creatinine levels (p=0.67; OR=1.43) and no significant relationship between 2hPPBG and urea levels (p=0.73; OR=1.42). Conclusion : There was no significant relationship between 2hPPBG levels and creatinine or urea levels among patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at RSI Aisyiyah Malang. Elevated urea and creatinine levels may be influenced by factors other than postprandial blood glucose levels.
