Abstract

Intervensi diberikan sesuai standar asuhan keperawatan, sedangkan An. AF memperoleh tambahan madu 5 cc secara oral tiga kali sehari. Evaluasi menunjukkan kedua pasien membaik, namun lama rawat An. AF tiga hari, lebih singkat dibandingkan An. AK selama empat hari.

Background: Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE) is one of the leading causes of diarrhea in children, resulting in excessive fluid and electrolyte loss that increases the risk of dehydration. In addition to pharmacological therapy, honey has antibacterial properties and has the potential to be used as a complementary therapy to help reduce the frequency of diarrhea. Objective: To describe the implementation of nursing care for children diagnosed with Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE) who experienced diarrhea as a nursing problem, with the administration of honey as a complementary therapy. Methods: This study employed a descriptive method with a case study approach using the nursing process, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The study subjects were two children diagnosed with Acute Gastroenteritis and hospitalized at RSUD Haji Surabaya. An. AF received honey therapy, while An. AK served as the comparison patient. Results: Both patients experienced diarrhea six times within 24 hours, accompanied by nausea, decreased appetite, increased bowel sounds, and signs of mild dehydration. The nursing issues included diarrhea, nausea, risk of hypovolemia, and disturbed sleep pattern. Nursing interventions were provided according to the standard nursing care plan, while An. AF additionally received 5 mL of honey orally three times daily. Evaluation showed improvement in both patients; however, An. AF had a shorter length of stay (three days) compared with An. AK (four days). Conclusion: Honey as a complementary therapy has the potential to accelerate recovery in children with Acute Gastroenteritis experiencing diarrhea.
