Hasil: Pada pasien 1 (An. Pada pasien 2 (An.

Nursing Care for A Child with Typhoid Fever and Hyperthermia Using Warm Compresses at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Surabaya
By: Zeka Aora Anasya
ABSTRACT
Background: Typhoid fever is an infectious disease that can cause an increase in body temperature, or hyperthermia, in children. Hyperthermia requires appropriate management to improve comfort and prevent complications. One non-pharmacological measure that can be used as a complementary therapy is the application of warm compresses. Objective: To describe the implementation of nursing care for children with typhoid fever experiencing hyperthermia covering assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention (warm compresses), and evaluation at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Surabaya. Methods: This study employed a case study design using the nursing care process approach involving two pediatric patients diagnosed with typhoid fever and hyperthermia. Data collection was conducted through interviews, observation, physical examinations, body temperature measurements, and documentation. Management involved collaborative pharmacological therapy based on medical orders including the administration of paracetamol as an antipyretic and other supportive therapies alongside the application of warm compresses using a washcloth with water at 37–40°C for 15–20 minutes, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Results: For Patient 1 (Child A), who received warm compresses, body temperature decreased from 39.3°C to 37.5°C by the third day; the skin no longer felt hot to the touch, redness subsided, the patient appeared more alert, and the hyperthermia was resolved. For Patient 2 (Child F), who did not receive warm compresses, body temperature decreased gradually from 39.2°C to 37.5°C by the fourth day. Conclusion: The administration of warm compresses as a complementary therapy can help accelerate the reduction of body temperature and the resolution of hyperthermia in children with typhoid fever.
