                Abstract

                The research focused on students’ speaking anxiety in speaking recount at the tenth grade of SMK Yapalis Krian. There were 45 students in X AK 4 class as a subject of the study. The purposes of this research are to describe the levels of students’ anxiety to speak English, the causes of students’ anxiety to speak English and the strategies that students apply to overcome speaking anxiety. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative method. The data were gathered through observation, questionnaire and interview. The finding showed that there was 2% student has very relaxed level, 4% students have relaxed level, 71% students have mildly anxious level, 22% students have anxious level and there was no student that categorized in very anxious level. Mostly, 33% students of anxiety are caused by learners’ belief about language learning. The most strategy that used by the students to overcome their speaking anxiety were relaxation and there were 38% students which used this strategy to overcome their speaking anxiety.
