Abstract
Keywords: Code Mixing, Code Switching, Novel, Rojak This thesis entitled Analysis of Code Mixing and Code Switching in the Novel Rojak by Fira Basuki contains about sociolinguistics. Holmes (2008:2) says that sociolinguistics is concerned with the relationship between language and the context in which it is used. The goal of the sociolinguistics study is to relating the language phenomena often occur in society, one of them mixing and switching language that commonly occur in bilingual or multilingual society. It is intended to find out code mixing and code switching in the novel Rojak by Fira Basuki. The research is to analyze and describe the type of code mixing and code switching based on existing theories. This research is a descriptive qualitative method. That aims to describe the occurrence of code mixing and code switching that includes types and reasons why it happened. To collect the data the writer selected utterances in the novel which are contain code mixing and code switching and then organize the data classified based on the types used. The result of this research concludes some question and objective of this research. It concludes that there are several types of code mixing and code switching, such as Indonesian-Malayan, Indonesian-Chinese, and Indonesian-English. Besides, there are some reasons that make the people used code mixing and code switching. Actually, the reason is order to make the conversation in their communication easier, simple and easy to understand one another.
