Abstract
The researcher chose Tom Tykwer’s “Perfume” movie to be analyzed because the story showed a weird obsession as reflected by the main character Jean-BaptiseGrenouille. He had high desire into the girl’s scent. That obsession would cause some anxieties which is experienced by Grenouille. The objectives of this research were for finding the obsession of Grenouille, explaining the Grenouille’s experiences that influence Grenouille’s action and describing Grenouille’s anxiety as depicted in that movie. In this research, the researcher used the descriptive qualitative to analyze the data which was based on the statements of the problem. Moreover, the researcher used librarry and internet resources in collecting the data. In the reslut, the researcher found the obsession of Grenouille. He had high obsession toward the girl’s scent to create perfume. Grenouille’s action in achieving his obsession to get perfume was influenced by his life experineces in the past. Such as; when he worked at Grimal’s tannery, he was always kicked by Grimal and his mother inherited her merciless nature to Grenouille. So, Grenouille became merciless man in creating perfume. Before he got the perfume, Grenouille experienced Reality and Neurotic anxiety. He felt anxious into the girls who were Grenouille wanted to murder, it was Reality anxiety. When he felt so worry and depressed into the girl’s scent that made him fainted and sick for a month, it wasNeurotic anxiety.
