Abstract
This research was aimed to analyze Code Switching and Code Mixing used by Breakout presenters. The data were taken from the conversation of the presenters which were transcribed from video on YouTube. Further, the selected utterances which contained of code switching and code mixing were analyzed. There were two purposes of the research, which were the types of code switching and code mixing used by Breakout presenters and the reason why they used code switching and code mixing in presented the program. Descriptive qualitative research was applied as a research method, while Code Switching theory proposed by Wardaugh (2010) and Hoffman (1991) and Code Mixing theory proposed by Musyken (2000) were used as the main theories to find out the purpose of the research. Thus, the result presented that the utterances of Breakout presenters showed three types of code switching which were conventional code switching, intersentential code switching, and establishing continuity with the perevious speaker and the two types of code mixing which are insertion and alternation. Meanwhile, there were four of appropriate reasons for the presenters used code switching and code mixing. They were talking about particular topic, being emphatic about something, expressing of group identity, and to soften and strenghtend request or command.
