Abstract
Historicism is a theory that provide about the relation between the authors’ life including the social milieu around the authors’ and the play itself. Some of the literary works are inspired by the real life story of the authors’. The researcher uses Waiting for Godotand the biography of Samuel Beckett as the data. Waiting for Godotis one of the most literary works that inspired from the social milieu of Beckett. This play created by Samuel Beckett and it is an absurd play that makes Beckett as the author to be famous dramatist. This play provides the main characters, Vladimir and Estragon, who waiting for Godot although they do not know who Godot is. They are waiting for Godot all the time. They have no home and they have no hope. They only hope Godot will come and give them the happiness. They look so suffered, frustration, and depressed because Godot does not come. This story has the relationship with the condition of human in Post-World War II and Beckett portrait that condition in this play. In this research, the researcher uses the descriptive qualitative to analyze the data. The researcher found the correlation between Beckett’s social milieu and the play.
