Abstract
The tittle of this research is Some Metaphors in “Crossing the Bar” by Alfred Lord Tennyson. This research has two objectives analysis. Firstly, know types of metaphors are used in “Crossing the Bar”. Secondly, find contribution metaphor to the message in “Crossing the Bar”. In this research uses descriptive qualitative methods. It can be descriptive because this research describes the types of metaphors are used and the contribution metaphor to the message conveyed in “Crossing the Bar”. The result of this research includes many types of metaphors are used in “Crossing the Bar” by Alfred Lord Tennyson. They are dead metaphor, extended metaphor, primary metaphor, root metaphor, absolute metaphor, therapeutic metaphor, submerged metaphor, conventional metaphor, and also mixed metaphor. In the poetry “Crossing the Bar”, there are some contribution metaphors to the messages. The messages talk about death, life, old age, and home. Keyword: Metaphor, “Crossing the Bar”, Message
