Abstract

This research is conducted in order to improve students’ speaking skill at seventh grade students of MTs Al-Ihsan Krian through role play activities. This research is related to the result of observation showed that the students were low competency in speaking skill. This research used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is conducted to solve the students’ problem in English speaking. The Classroom Action Research (CAR) was done based on the Susanto’s theory. The researcher did two cycles in which each cycle consist of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The data were gathered through qualitative data.The objectives of this research are to describe : (1)the implementation of the role play in speaking class to seventh grade students of MTs AL-Ihsan Krian; (2) the students’ improvement in speaking skill after having a class with role play to the seventh grade students of MTs AL-Ihsan Krian. The finding of this research indicated the implementation of role play technique was successfull since the criteria of success were achieved. The first criterion was twenty five students could pass the target 72 based on the KKM. Besides, the second criterion was the students who become more active involved in teaching and learning process. The result of interview for the teacher after implementation showed that by using role play students were active involved in the classroom. Based on the finding mentioned before, the researcher suggest that the English teacher could implement role play in teaching speaking in order to motivate students in learning English speaking.
