Abstract
This thesis attempts to analyze Jane Austen’s novel entitle Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen was a major English novelist, Whose brilliantly Witty, elegantly structured satirical fiction marks at early nineteenth century romanticism. The most famous of Pride and Prejudice captures the affections of matrimonial aims and rivalries is widely regarded as classics. This thesis is about the main character’s personality, which the prime focus is placed upon Elizabeth. How Elizabeth develops her personality and why Elizabeth develops her personality during the course of the novel. Dealing with the focus of the study above, this study is a library bases, that applies literary and personality approach. The writer uses theory of characterization as the main tool. Since this study is basically literary research, the writer uses qualitative description. In order to collect the data, the writer conducts the library research and combines it with other sources that have relationship with the analysis. From the analysis, it can be found out that in Pride and Prejudice, how Elizabeth develops her personality through undergoing a permanent change in some aspects of her character. Elizabeth is sharp contrast to Darcy’s pompousness. Her down to earth attitude sets straight his haughty appeal and injects in him a sense of tradition. While, the causes of why Elizabeth develops her personality are Elizabeth want to build her self actualization in her life. As a champion of individual, Elizabeth prides her self on her discriminating judgment, boasting that she is a student of character . Elizabeth has clarity o thought and farsightedness that helps her to see things in her right perspective. Her standards and her parameters are very different from the rest of the society, because she has her own standards. Key words: Personality, Discriminating Judgment, Character’s Personality
