Abstract
This is study about symbol in poetry. Poetry is a literary work full of imagination expressed, and composition that makes you think about words and their arrangement. Many pleasure are offerring by poetry like as meaning, of image and symbol, of speech, and thought. This thesis choosing symbol to be analyzed as part of figurative language in order to find the message in a poem and significance of symbol in true meaning. The writer takes a tittle; An Analysis of symbols and true meaning in Emily Dickinson’s poems: “ Because I could not stop for Death, “I heard a Fly buzz-when I died and “My life closed twice before its close”.The writer does her analysis based on said a symbol is an image that expands in meaning through the friction of emphasis until it inflames the imagination. A symbol represent something else to express a thing and image in poems became imagination the author’s to make good poem with their imagination that realion with their think.Symbols in poem’s are use to explain how the meaning the poem can be understand in which substitutes the real world, or objects from the real world. The research methodology is using qualitative research for the process of the analysis in this research. The writer uses narrative description. In collecting the data, the writer applied: selecting Emily Dickinson’s poems randomly, reading the poems every lines carefully, then collecting and analysing the data, comprehending the poems from the symbols analysis, and discussing the true meaning of all poems. The thesis writer conclude that Emily Dickinson’s poem’s are rich with meaningful symbol, and her poems deals with death and the problem of life after death and also her doubt about immortality. She is obsesses with anything about eternity and she trys to make an observation about it. The writer understandable and enjoyble to atrraction of reading Emily Dickinson poem’s.
