Abstract
This research was aimed to analyze Positive Politeness Strategies used by Alice for Struggling against Alzheimer. The data were taken from the dialogue of the film and also its script entitled “Still Alice” (2014). Then, ten selected utterances which have tendency against Alzheimer were analyzed. There were three objectives of the research, that were types of positive politeness strategy used by Alice for struggling against Alzheimer, the explanation about the way of Alice in using these types on her utterances and the reasons of Alice in using these types on her utterances. Descriptive qualitative was applied as a research method, while Positive Politeness Strategy proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987) was used as the main approach to find out the objective of the research. This research tried to describe and explain Alice’s utterances meaning which was related to her profession as a Linguistic Professor and her Alzheimer. The result presented that positive politeness strategies used by Alice have tendency against Alzheimer. There were three types of positive politeness strategy applied by herself. They were promise strategy, be optimistic strategy and giving understanding strategy. Keywords: Politeness, Positive Politeness Strategy, Struggling, Alzheimer.
