Abstract

Background: In 2021, 73.7% of people with Diabetes Mellitus (DM) or around
14.34 million Indonesians lived with undiagnosed diabetes mellitus. One of the complications of diabetes is diabetic retinopathy which is classified as a microvascular complication caused by prolonged hyperglycemia or other conditions related to DM. Diabetic retinopathy affects 80% of diabetes patients. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between the duration of type 2 diabetes mellitus and HbA1c levels with RD type. Method: The study is included in observational analytics using a cross-sectional study. Results: Data analysis of age groups was dominated by the age range of 55-59 years and 60-64 years (35.3%). Analysis of HbA1c levels was dominated by the age range of 55-59 years and 60-64 years with a duration of type 2 DM > 5 years (52.9%). The type of diabetic retinopathy that dominates NPDR (54.9%). Conclusion: Research shows there is no significant relationship between type 2 DM and RD. However, there is a significant relationship between HbA1c levels and RD type.
